A good start for touring around….and for the festival coming up

In Salalah, the mountains are green, flowers are blossoming, the temperature is about 27 degree Celsius. This magical event is caused by the south-west monsoon also called the Khareef. For touring around to the places that you want to see, the Arabian Sea Villas nearby the city-center and on the crossroad for touring to the east and the west are good start….certainly when you want to visit the yearly Salalah Tourism Festival, the former Khareef festival.

While the UAE weather news announces ‘Hot to very hot weather across the UAE,’ in the south of the Sultanate of Oman, clouds obscure the sun, a gentle drizzle falls and temperatures top 27°C. It’s the seasonal Khareef or south-west monsoon phenomenon who causes this. That’s why, Salalah in Dhofar, is frequented by many visitors from within Oman but also from the neighbouring countries and India. Arabian Sea Villas, right on the beach is then the place to be….

During your experience of the real meaning of the Rub al Khali, you will certainly look and find ‘geodes,’ rocks that are not only geological wonders, they still are of some scientific interest to geologists. Normally, geodes are small hollow rocks lined with crystals. They are common in active volcanic areas of the world. The ‘Dhofar geodes’ differ from these. These geodes are found as hard round balls of rock lying loose in stony desert areas and somewhat surprisingly around the strand lines of dry lakes. Many of the geodes are hollow with thin airtight hard silica shells (quartz). When broken open they have interiors lined with elegantly shaped quartz crystals.
